Philips Consulting

Bio: Ute Philips

Since founding her company in 1995, Ute has provided team building, leadership training and strategic visioning expertise to executives, project and management teams and boards of directors for both profit and not-for-profit organizations.

Ute has a passionate interest in people -- how we think, how we work and how we can fully actualize our potential, both individually and in teams. She is a skilled facilitator and mediator: her facilitation work is characterized by an open, creative and warm style that stimulates learning, participation and cooperation.

Ute brings depth of experience and a strong set of skills to her work with people. Over the past 25 years, she has been a CFO to several professional companies with revenues in excess of $10 million. From 1985 to 1995, she held the position of Executive Director of Aitken Wreglesworth Associates, a multi-disciplinary design firm. She and her partners grew this firm from 11 people to 108 people over an initial six year period. She was the key strategist in several mergers undertaken by AWA and was a highly effective leader in creating a corporate culture that was inclusive, open, responsible and highly communicative and a big reason for the rapid growth and success of that firm.

Ute has contributed to the professional design community by lecturing for several years in the architectural certification program at the AIBC and UBC, in the The Business of Architecture. She was President of PSMA (Professional Services Management Association) assisting with clarifying the identity and purpose of this organization to become more relevant to its membership.

She has a particular interest in community oriented organizations. Ute assisted Covenant House Vancouver's Board of Directors for several years as they were developing their Board vision and governance. She has provided strategic services to The YVR Art Foundation Board and BCIT Board of Governors, as well as working closely with post-secondary institutions such as Kwantlen Polytechnical University, Simon Fraser University and  British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).

Ute creates balance in her life through her passion for art, including watercolor and acrylic painting as well as figure drawing and portraiture. She is an avid gardener, pond caretaker and is devoted to her dog Sophie, and cats, Tiko and Max. Ute lives in beautiful Lions Bay with her husband Peter Wreglesworth, Senior Principal with Stantec Architecture.
